OKC and Norman, OK to/from Dallas -- Train and Bus Options

With the start of Megabus express coach service from OKC to Dallas area (with a stop at Norman, OK), here’s some updated info……

For maps of downtown OKC with hotels and sights: http://downtownokc.com/DowntownI...irections.aspx

Megabus has 3 times a day service from OKC to the Dallas area, with one stop in Norman, OK on the University of Oklahoma campus. Travel time is listed at 3hours35mins OKC to Downtown Dallas and 4hours to the suburb of Grand Prairie.

*****As of Nov. 19, 2012, Megabus to/from Dallas may utilize two stations---Downtown Dallas and suburban Grand Prairie. Please see the Megabus website for updates. The Downtown Dallas station may have good connections to the Dallas are DART light rail train system, with connections to DFW Airport and Dallas Love Airport. The Megabus station in Downtown Dallas is listed as the DART East Transfer Center at 330 N Olive Street. See website at dart.org *****

*****For Norman, on a day when the Univ. of Oklahoma has a home football game, MegaBus has an alternate pick-up spot. Please see http://us.megabus.com/ServiceAdvisories.aspx ******

Megabus uses the downtown OKC city bus plaza at Hudson Av and NW Fifth St (not the Greyhound inter-city bus station at 427 W. Sheridan, corner of Sheridan and N. Walker Av). The city bus plaza is walking distance from most downtown hotels, but would be a rather long walk from Bricktown area hotels. (The city bus plaza is one block from the OKC Federal Bldg bombing memorial.)
For maps of the OKC city bus plaza and city bus info, see: http://gometro.org/transit-center

Megabus fares range from $21 one-way, down to $5 based on day of week and advance booking. For current schedules, fares and connections to other cities, see: http://us.megabus.com/Default.aspx

Amtrak runs 1 train daily between OKC and downtown Fort Worth, TX, with stops in Norman and several other towns on the I-35 corridor. Travel time is about 4hours15mins, with nearly all seats on the “upper deck” or “second floor” of the Amtrak passenger cars.

The OKC Amtrak train station is downtown at 100 South Gaylord Blvd (between Sheridan and Reno Av). It is walking distance from hotels in either the downtown or Bricktown areas (since the train tracks are the separation between downtown and Bricktown).

The Amtrak train is called the “Heartland Flyer” with the website: http://heartlandflyer.com/train-...ion/schedules/ or see: Amtrak.com

Tickets can be booked at Amtrak.com using station codes OKC and FTW. Fares range from $26 to $37 based on day of week or advance purchase; kids age 2-15 are half-price. There are sometimes 2-for-1 deals on adult fares.

The “Heartland Flyer” Amtrak train ends at the downtown Fort Worth transit center which also serves the city bus system and Trinity River Express (TRE) commuter rail to DFW airport area, suburbs and downtown Dallas.
More info about Fort Worth transit connections at:
(Look for links at upper right for “T” city bus service in Fort Worth, and Dallas “DART” bus/light rail.)

For Amtrak, the “Heartland Flyer” train is scheduled for connections to the “Texas Eagle” train which runs south to Austin, San Antonio (and LA) or north to Little Rock, St Louis and Chicago. The “Texas Eagle” has the option of sleeping car rooms for long-distance travel. More info at:
http://texaseagle.com/ or Amtrak.com

Greyhound inter-city coach has 1 daily express trip from OKC to Dallas with a stop in Norman, OK. Travel time is 3hours40minutes, and fares range from $16-$20 web fares to a $64 refundable fare. Greyhound also has other multi-stop routes from OKC to Dallas with travel time up to 5 hours. More info at: greyhound.com. The Greyhound inter-city bus station is at 427 W. Sheridan (corner of Sheridan and N. Walker Av), so walking distance from downtown hotels (far from Bricktown area hotels).
